In the soup

Big Guy's in the hospital again. There's more to the story than that, and it's considerably more painful than I'm able to write about, but there you have it.

There are times when life is thick, and heavy, hard to move through. You can't breathe, can't see ahead. It's like swimming in pea soup.

Last night Eldest asked, "How do you get through something like this?" I thought for a bit and replied, "You just do. You keep moving forward, because... because what choice is there?"

Sometimes you do what you can, and then do the next thing that you can, and then the next thing... It's better than treading water (or soup) forever.

  1. I'm sorry. I know, you just keep going because there's no other option.

  2. Here from Magpie's--I'm sorry to hear this. I've read several of your posts about him and it sounds like you really do the best anybody could in this situation.

  3. Here from Magpie's, wishing you strength. (I've been there, as the one being hospitalized.)

  5. Your last sentence reminded me of St. Francis of Assisi's famous line: "Start by doing what's necessary; then do what's possible; and suddenly you are doing the impossible.”

I'm sorry things are so hard right now. Wishing you as much peace as is possible. Or impossible, even, I suppose.

  6. Years ago our family lived through a hospital crisis that went on for some time. Several weeks into it when I honestly didn't know how we could endure any more, a relative sent us a Christmas ornament, a silver angel with this quotation from Eleanor Roosevelt: "You must do the thing you think you cannot do." That carried me for weeks. So yes, do this one thing, and then the next. And somehow, we do even what we didn't think we could do. Bon courage...
